Chris and I attended a funeral for a sweet eight-month old girl. It was heart wrenching. When I stood as they carefully wheeled in such a tiny pink
casket, with stoic yet tearful parents following, my heart broke at the
sight. And suddenly, my heart gathered in my sweet daughters.

Tonight
as I sit next to you on your bed
and kiss you goodnight
I'll hold you close and whisper "I love you"
just a little longer.
as I listen to your stories
of school and friends and fun
I'll stop and really listen
just a little longer.
as I push you on the swing
and enjoy the sound of your laughter
and pleas for "more", I'll push
just a little longer.
as I kneel beside you in prayer
and breath in the scent of you
I'll hold your hand in mine

as I watch your smile
brighten your face and twinkle your eyes
I'll take a mental picture to make it last

And still tonight,
as I return to your bedside
and tuck the covers gently around you again
I'll bask in the wonder of you
just a little longer.
